Poland has expressed readiness to deepen defence cooperation with Nigeria, with particular emphasis on border security, technology transfer and the exchange of operational expertise.
The Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Michał Cygan, made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
Cygan commended the professionalism, resilience and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, noting that the country’s strategic geographical position and sustained security engagements were vital to peace and stability in West Africa and beyond.
He described Nigeria as a crucial stabilising force in the sub-region and identified several areas in which both countries could strengthen cooperation and share experiences for mutual benefit.
In his response, General Oluyede thanked the Polish envoy for the visit and stressed the need to expand bilateral defence relations, particularly in areas that would directly support Nigeria’s ongoing military operations.
The CDS identified border security and technology transfer as priority areas, highlighting Poland’s experience in border management and security as an opportunity for mutually beneficial collaboration.
He also expressed the readiness of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to sustain engagement with Polish defence stakeholders towards strengthening cooperation between both countries.
The visit forms part of ongoing engagements by the Polish envoy to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Poland, particularly in the defence and security sector.
The statement was signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba.
