The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, and the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division have pledged to strengthen collaboration between the military and the media to address security challenges and sustain peace in Kaduna State and the North-West.
The commitment was made when the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, paid a courtesy visit to the Kaduna State Council of the NUJ to strengthen relations between the military and journalists.
Abdullahi, who recently assumed duty as Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, said the visit was informed by the need to maintain cordial relations with journalists, whom he described as critical stakeholders in promoting peace and security.
He noted that although his area of responsibility covered Kaduna, Katsina, Kano and Jigawa states, Kaduna remained his host state, making a strong working relationship with the NUJ particularly important.
The Army spokesperson emphasised the media’s critical role in both wartime and peacetime, particularly in communicating the achievements of security agencies and educating the public on their roles and responsibilities in building a peaceful society.
“The importance of the media is very critical in both war and peacetime. Now that we are in a period of relative peace, the media is very important because it is the media that consolidates the gains achieved by other sectors,” he said.
He stressed that effective communication and sustained engagement between the military and journalists were essential to consolidating security gains and promoting public understanding of ongoing efforts to address insecurity.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen military-media relations and support the dissemination of credible information on security operations and peacebuilding efforts across Kaduna State and the wider North-West region.
