The Director of the Nigerian Army’s Directorate of Inspection and Compliance, Major General Francis Omata, has emphasised strict adherence to approved infrastructure specifications, transparency and accountability in the execution of projects across Army formations.
Major General Omata stated this during a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of 1 Division Nigerian Army in Kaduna as part of the Directorate’s ongoing tour to assess infrastructure projects, review procurement activities and identify abandoned projects within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.
In a press statement, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Ajemasu Yake Jingina, said the inspection aligns with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.
The statement noted that the exercise underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to transparency, institutional accountability, efficient resource management and improved infrastructure development across its formations and units.
Speaking during the briefing, Major General Omata explained that the Directorate was responsible for inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects and procurement processes to ensure compliance with approved standards.
He said identifying stalled and abandoned projects would enable the Directorate to provide the Chief of Army Staff with comprehensive, evidence-based reports on project implementation, progress milestones and challenges requiring intervention.
According to him, the exercise is designed to provide accurate information on the condition of Army infrastructure and identify areas requiring urgent attention, ensuring that resources committed to projects deliver quality and lasting benefits to personnel and the institution.
In his response, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 1 Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammed Wase, welcomed the delegation and commended the Directorate for its efforts to enforce compliance with established project execution standards.
Briefing the visitors on the security situation within the Division’s Area of Responsibility, Major General Wase described the environment as relatively calm, attributing the situation to sustained military operations and collaboration among security agencies and relevant stakeholders.
He said the gains were being supported by a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic approaches implemented in collaboration with the Federal Government and respective state governments.
The GOC also reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to implementing the Chief of Army Staff’s vision and the Soldier First culture, commending the Army leadership for prioritising the living and working conditions of personnel through ongoing infrastructure projects.
He noted that improved troop welfare remained critical to boosting morale, strengthening commitment and enhancing the effective discharge of the military’s constitutional responsibilities.
Major General Wase assured the Directorate of the Division’s continued support for its oversight mandate, particularly in ensuring the proper utilisation of allocated resources and the timely delivery of infrastructure projects.
The visit reinforces the Nigerian Army’s drive to strengthen accountability, enforce compliance with approved project specifications and ensure that infrastructure investments translate into improved operational effectiveness and better welfare for personnel.
