The Delta State Police Command has rescued an abducted woman and arrested eight suspects in separate operations targeting kidnapping, violent crime and other criminal activities across the state.
The Command said the kidnapped woman was rescued unharmed after police operatives and local vigilantes mounted an intensive search following her abduction along Eko-Amukpe Road, Sapele.
According to the police, the incident occurred at about 7:45 p.m. on September 2, 2026, when armed men ambushed the woman at the entrance of her residence as she attempted to drive into her compound.
The suspects reportedly fired several shots into the air before taking the victim into a nearby bush.
Following a distress report, the Divisional Police Officer, Sapele Division, immediately mobilised patrol and surveillance teams to the area. Expended AK-47 ammunition shells were recovered at the scene.
The search operation continued throughout the night and into the morning of September 3, with police operatives and local vigilantes combing the surrounding bushes.
The sustained pressure reportedly forced the kidnappers to abandon the victim and flee, after which she was found and rescued unharmed and reunited with her family.
The Command said it had intensified efforts to identify and arrest the fleeing kidnappers.
In a separate operation in Abraka, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested eight suspects following credible intelligence linked to an attempted murder reported on September 3.
The suspects, identified as Evans Adamda, Mamatime Micheal, Wale Morakinya, Anabono, Godspower, Theophilus Philip, Robinson Oghenewiro and Inoni Ejiroghene, were arrested during a raid on suspected criminal hideouts in the area.
Police said three locally made pistols, Tramadol and other suspected illicit drugs were recovered during the operation.
The suspects and exhibits remain in police custody as investigations continue to determine their individual involvement in the alleged attempted murder and other criminal activities in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the police operatives and local vigilantes involved in the operations.
Erale pledged that the Command would sustain intelligence-led operations against kidnappers, cultists and other criminal elements across the state.
He also urged residents to provide the police with timely and credible information that could assist in identifying criminal hideouts, apprehending offenders and recovering illicit weapons.
