The Nigeria Police Force has launched efforts to track down those behind a fake press release falsely claiming that Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, had ordered the commencement of training for 50,000 newly recruited police constables.
The Force said the document, which bears the name and designation of its Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, is unauthorised and did not emanate from the Nigeria Police Force.
In a disclaimer, the police specifically warned candidates participating in the ongoing recruitment exercise against acting on the information, urging them to disregard the purported directive and rely only on updates published through the official police recruitment portal and verified NPF communication channels.
The Force said it would work to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for producing and circulating the fraudulent document, adding that anyone found culpable would face appropriate legal action. It also urged members of the public to verify recruitment-related information through official police platforms before sharing or acting on it.
