The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) Badagry has handed over 106 parcels of suspected Cannabis sativa recovered during a targeted operation in the Badagry–Porto-Novo creeks to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The consignment was recovered on Monday, September 7, 2026, by naval personnel deployed at the Naval Outpost Tongeji, following credible human intelligence on suspected illicit drug trafficking activities within the maritime corridor.
Acting on the intelligence, the naval team conducted a targeted operation in the creeks, intercepting the consignment and recovering 106 parcels of the suspected narcotic substance.
The suspected traffickers, however, fled the area after sighting the naval patrol team, thereby preventing the personnel from making any arrests.
The recovered items were subsequently handed over to officials of the NDLEA for further investigation and necessary action in accordance with established procedures.
The Commanding Officer of FOB Badagry, Navy Captain Said Muhammed Kabir, represented by the Base Operations Officer, Lieutenant Commander Ehis Osabo Nathaniel, disclosed the development while briefing journalists on the operation.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy's commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the nation's maritime environment.
The Commanding Officer also stressed the importance of sustained operations and inter-agency cooperation in tackling criminal activities along the country's waterways.
FOB Badagry urged members of the public to provide security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious activities.
The Base assured that the Nigerian Navy would continue to work closely with the NDLEA and other relevant security agencies to strengthen security and curb criminal activities along the Badagry maritime corridor.
