‘I Know What He Can and Cannot Do’ — 2Baba’s Mother Defends Son Amid Criticism

Rose Idibia, mother of Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has defended her son against what she described as false reports and allegations about his personal life.

Speaking in an interview with Vanguard, Rose said the singer had endured criticism and numerous reports in newspapers and on social media, but had remained focused because he knows the truth about himself.

2Baba has been in the public spotlight over his personal life since announcing his separation from actress Annie Macaulay in January 2025. He subsequently made his relationship with Natasha Osawaru, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly, public in February 2025.

According to Rose, some of the allegations published about her son were untrue, but his understanding of what he had done and what he had not done had helped him cope with the pressure.

“What kept him (2Baba) going is that some of the things that have been published about him in the dailies and online are not true. If people are attacking you from every quarter, but you know yourself, it might hurt you, but because you know the truth, you can weather it,” she said.

Rose added that, as his mother, she believes she knows her son well enough to distinguish between what he is capable of doing and what he is not.

“We know the truth about him. He’s my son. I know what he can do, and I know what he cannot do,” she said.

She acknowledged that her son had gone through difficult periods amid the public scrutiny, but said he had continued to pursue his career and remain focused on his goals.

“He has gone through a lot. Lies upon him — newspapers, social media — they come up with all sorts of rubbish. But I thank God because he’s somebody who knows what he wants. And he forged ahead and made it. He may not be super rich, but he made it in music,” Rose said.
