The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Western Marine Command, Lagos, has confirmed a fire incident at its premises in Apapa, assuring that no life was lost or injury recorded.
The fire incident occurred at about 10:35 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, with thick smoke reportedly noticed coming from the newly constructed conference hall.
According to a statement signed by the Command’s Acting Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Nwosu Clarine Chibunna, officers on duty immediately activated emergency response protocols and made efforts to contain the fire.
Personnels of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at about 11:25 a.m. and successfully brought the fire under control.
The preliminary assessment showed that some property and office equipment were affected by the fire.
The Command said its core operations remain unaffected and continue normally, while assuring stakeholders that necessary measures are being taken to safeguard personnel and infrastructure.
A committee has also been constituted to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the incident and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.
The Command commended its officers and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service for their prompt response and reaffirmed its commitment to safety, security and operational efficiency.
