Troops of Joint Task Force (JTF) North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recovered and safely disposed of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) allegedly planted by terrorists along a major access route in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation, conducted on 27 August 2026, followed credible intelligence indicating that an explosive device had been planted along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road.
In a press release, the Media Information Officer of JTF North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said troops of Sector 2 swiftly responded to the report and moved to the location, where they identified the device and secured the area to prevent harm to motorists and other road users.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was subsequently deployed to safely dispose of the IED, averting what could have resulted in casualties and disruption of movement along the route.
Following the successful operation, troops sustained aggressive patrols across the general area to deny terrorist elements freedom of action and prevent further attacks.
The operation underscores the continued commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting lives, safeguarding critical routes and countering the evolving tactics of terrorist elements across the Joint Operations Area.
The Joint Task Force urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious objects or activities to security agencies, stressing that timely and credible information remains vital to preventing attacks and enhancing public safety.
