Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered an abandoned AK-47 rifle and rescued a 63-year-old Cameroonian national allegedly abducted by terrorists during separate operations in the Gwoza axis of Borno State.
The operations were conducted on Aug. 17 by troops of the 151 Task Force Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI and Operation DESERT SANITY V.
During a routine patrol around farmlands in Ngurusoye village at about 10:55 a.m., troops discovered an AK-47 rifle buried in the ground.
The recovered weapon, bearing registration number NK-105320, was subsequently handed over to the 21 Special Anti-Banditry Mobile Police Regiment (21 SAB MOPOL) for safekeeping and further necessary action.
In a separate operation at about 2:15 p.m., troops rescued a Cameroonian national, identified as Dubi Je Manma, 63, who was allegedly abducted by terrorists at Ashigashiya village, located along the Gwoza-Cameroon border axis.
Security sources said the circumstances surrounding his abduction are currently being investigated.
The rescued victim was also handed over to the 21 Special Anti-Banditry Mobile Police Regiment for further investigation and necessary action.
The operations form part of sustained efforts by troops of Operation HADIN KAI and Operation DESERT SANITY V to disrupt terrorist activities, recover illegal weapons, rescue victims and strengthen security across vulnerable communities and border areas in the North-East.
Security sources said the overall situation across the theatre remained calm but unpredictable, while troops continued to maintain satisfactory morale and operational readiness. - By Zagazola Makama
