Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested two suspected terrorist collaborators accused of providing medical assistance and logistics support to wounded insurgents in Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The suspects were arrested at about 2:10 p.m. on Aug. 17 following an intelligence-led operation targeting locals allegedly involved in supporting terrorist elements operating in the area.
They were identified as Usman Babazaki, 35, and Mohammed Grema, 35, both natives of Bultuwa village in Yunusari LGA.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly provided medical treatment and other logistics supplies to wounded terrorists.
Items recovered during the operation included four cards of Amoxicillin tablets, two Smartcef injections, three bottles of normal saline, five packs of All-Stars cigarettes, two packs of Aspen cigarettes and a quantity of suspected Indian hemp.
Troops also recovered two mobile phones, a voter’s card, a National Identity Card, a First Bank ATM card, a student identity card and N11,500 in cash.
The suspects and recovered items are currently in the custody of the 27 Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation.
The arrests form part of sustained intelligence-led operations under Operation HADIN KAI and Operation DESERT SANITY V aimed at disrupting terrorist support networks and denying insurgents access to medical care, logistics and other forms of local assistance.
Security sources said the overall situation across the theatre remained calm but unpredictable, while troops continued to maintain satisfactory morale and operational readiness. - By Zagazola Makama
