Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, have foiled an attack by suspected armed herders in Azege Village, Tombo Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The troops responded to a distress call on Monday, August 10, 2026, reporting an attack on the community.
According to the Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the suspected attackers in a gun battle.
He said the troops’ superior firepower forced the assailants to flee in disarray.
During the subsequent pursuit, troops discovered one of the suspected attackers who had been neutralised during the encounter.
Recovered from the scene were one AK-47 rifle, one magazine loaded with 16 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, and one Nokia mobile phone.
The recovered items have been secured, while the remains of the suspected attacker were evacuated by the Police.
The Joint Task Force said efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend other members of the group who escaped during the encounter.
Operation WHIRL STROKE commended the troops for their tactical resilience and praised the Nigeria Police Force for its effective collaboration.
The task force also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
