BISSAU, Guinea-Bissau — The Resident Representative of the President of the ECOWAS Commission and Head of Mission to Guinea-Bissau, Her Excellency Ambassador Dr. Ngozi Ukaeje, has commended personnel of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB) for their professionalism, commitment and operational readiness.

Ambassador Ukaeje gave the commendation on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, when the Force Commander, ESSMGB, Brigadier General Danjuma Ribah Dantani, led newly inducted senior officers on a courtesy visit to the ECOWAS Office in Bissau.

She described the personnel as “Diplomatic Military Professionals” and expressed delight at receiving the new officers into the mission, according to a statement by Major Reuben Kovangiya, Military Public Information Officer, Force Headquarters ESSMGB.

The Resident Representative and Head of Mission said she was particularly impressed by the contingents’ ability to “hit the ground running” immediately upon assumption of duty.

Ambassador Ukaeje urged the Contingent Commanders to tailor their in-house training programmes towards supporting the National Defence Forces of Guinea-Bissau ahead of the forthcoming referendum and subsequent general elections in the country.

“Remain focused and brace up for the tasks ahead in order to achieve the objectives of the Mission,” Dr. Ukaeje charged the officers.

Earlier, Brig. Gen. Dantani said the visit was in line with the tradition of the Force Headquarters to formally introduce newly inducted senior officers to the Head of Mission to facilitate direct engagement when necessary.

He briefed Ambassador Ukaeje on administrative and operational matters affecting the contingents and expressed appreciation for her exemplary leadership and continued support for the mission.

The newly introduced senior officers included the Deputy Force Commander, Colonel Nicholas Sambou of Senegal; the Contingent Commanders of Nigeria and Ghana and their deputies, as well as staff officers of the Force Headquarters.

The ESSMGB was deployed to support stability and security in Guinea-Bissau as the country prepares for key democratic processes.
