Two senior terrorist commanders have surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI, providing what the military described as valuable intelligence expected to strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria’s North-East.
The Acting Media Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the terrorists surrendered to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam on July 4, 2026.
According to the statement, the two commanders, identified as Munzirs within the terrorist leadership hierarchy, arrived in Maiduguri at about 7:30 p.m. and are currently in military custody, where they are undergoing profiling, debriefing and intelligence exploitation.
Preliminary interrogation, the military said, revealed that the surrendered commanders held influential positions within the terrorist organisation and possess extensive knowledge of its operational activities, command structure and logistics network.
The statement added that intelligence gathered from their debriefing has already provided useful insights into the group’s operational methods, sustainment mechanisms and support networks, which are expected to enhance intelligence-led operations targeting remaining terrorist enclaves across the North-East.
Operation HADIN KAI described the surrender as another major setback for the insurgents, attributing it to sustained military offensives, coordinated land and air operations, and intensified intelligence efforts that continue to degrade the terrorists’ fighting capability and command structures.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operational pressure until all terrorist elements are neutralised or compelled to surrender, while pledging to continue exploiting actionable intelligence in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to restore lasting peace, security and stability across the North-East.
