President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria's economy has stabilised, assuring citizens that his administration is committed to improving social welfare, clearing outstanding pension obligations, and sustaining collaboration with states to address insecurity and drive national development.
The President made the remarks during a meeting with North-East stakeholders and governors, where he expressed appreciation for the region's continued support and reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling campaign promises.
Describing the visit as "sentimental and constructive," Tinubu said it reflected the trust reposed in his administration and his determination to build on the progress already recorded.
"The economy is already stabilised," the President stated, adding that Nigerians seek "simple stability and social welfare" rather than unrealistic expectations.
Tinubu commended the governors of the North-East for their partnership with the Federal Government, particularly in addressing insecurity and improving infrastructure across the region.
Recalling his earlier commitment to expanding road networks in the North-East, the President said his administration had begun delivering on those promises while intensifying efforts to tackle terrorism and banditry through closer collaboration with state governments.
"I could see our collaboration that we work together. Only if we stick together, think together and face the challenges the best way possible as a united country," he said.
On pension payments, President Tinubu disclosed that his administration is settling outstanding pension liabilities inherited from previous governments, particularly those arising from the privatisation of Federal Government-owned enterprises.
Addressing pensioners present at the meeting, the President said he hoped they were now receiving their entitlements, noting that previous privatisation exercises failed to adequately provide for pension obligations.
Without mentioning names, Tinubu criticised those involved in earlier privatisation programmes, saying they "privatised government investments in public-private entities but forgot to pay the pension."
"I'm clearing the pensioners now... I won't complain. We are clearing the mess," he said.
The President reaffirmed his administration's resolve to remain focused despite political challenges, expressing confidence in Nigeria's democratic journey and future prosperity.
"We have our hands on the plough, we are never going to look back," Tinubu declared.
He assured Nigerians that his government would continue to strengthen national unity, democratic stability and economic prosperity.
"Through the twists and turns of this democracy, Nigeria will survive. We will find our unity in diversity as a good path for democratic stability and prosperity in the country. I promise you," the President said.
