The Nigeria Police Force has recorded significant operational successes across several states in the last 24 hours, with arrests of suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, cultists, human traffickers and drug suspects, while intensifying investigations into violent attacks and rescue operations for kidnapped victims.
A security situation report revealed that police commands across the country responded swiftly to various security incidents through intelligence-led operations, joint security deployments and coordinated investigations.
In Gombe State, police arrested suspected armed robber Micah Nuhu for allegedly attacking a woman, Mama Kingsley Joseph, with a pestle before stealing her purse. The stolen item was recovered, while the victim was rushed to hospital for treatment. Officers also arrested Nasiru Aminu (40) and Jamiu Muhammad (33) at a criminal hideout in Akko Local Government Area, recovering 39 master keys and a screwdriver suspected to be used for housebreaking. In another operation, police recovered a stolen Toyota Yaris after suspected carjackers stabbed its owner and abandoned him along the Tumu-Kashere Junction.
In Ondo State, operatives arrested two suspected members of the notorious Eiye Confraternity, identified as Sunday Monday (30) and Samuel Omosaye (27), following intelligence gathered from an earlier arrest involving a suspect found with a cut-to-size gun and battle axe. Police also raided a criminal hideout, arresting three suspects and recovering quantities of suspected Indian hemp and other illicit substances.
Police in Bauchi State rescued two four-year-old children after they were allegedly lured away by a suspected kidnapper with ₦50 each. The suspect, Bala Saidu Mohammed, was arrested, while the children were safely reunited with their families.
In Anambra State, detectives arrested two suspected human traffickers, Chimaobi Nwaiwu and Onyinye Nwaiwu, for allegedly trafficking an 18-year-old woman to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, without parental consent. The suspects reportedly confessed to operating a trafficking network that received 100,000 CFA for each victim transported, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate.
In Ebonyi State, police arrested suspected armed robber Emeka Oke, recovering a locally-made double-barrel pistol and a live cartridge during the operation.
Police in Akwa Ibom State rearrested a robbery suspect who allegedly attacked a resident with a dagger during an attempted robbery. The victim sustained damage to her mobile phone during the incident, while investigations continue to apprehend fleeing accomplices.
In Imo State, a joint operation involving the police, military and local vigilantes led to the arrest of a suspected armed robber during a cordon-and-search operation in Owerri. A locally fabricated pistol and an expended cartridge were recovered, while another suspect remains at large.
In Enugu State, police arrested two suspected members of the Abashie Confraternity during a raid at Banana Estate, Independence Layout. Officers recovered 11 sachets of suspected illicit drugs, eight motorcycles and one tricycle abandoned by fleeing gang members.
Meanwhile, police have intensified investigations into several violent attacks across the country.
In Kebbi State, detectives are investigating an ambush on a military patrol in Wasagu District in which two Forest Guards were killed and one soldier remains missing. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
In Kogi State, police deployed joint security teams following separate attacks by armed men in Bakunba and Bakumba communities, which left two people dead and five others abducted. Bush-combing operations are ongoing to rescue the victims.
In Niger State, investigations have commenced into separate attacks that claimed the lives of three persons, while three children were kidnapped. Rescue efforts are ongoing.
Similarly, in Benue State, police reinforced security in Ondo Ugboju Community in Otukpo Local Government Area after an armed attack killed one person and left several others injured. Additional personnel have been deployed to prevent further attacks, while investigations continue.
In Nasarawa State, security operatives, supported by local vigilantes, launched a manhunt for suspected kidnappers who abducted two residents following sporadic gunfire in Bethel City.
The Nigeria Police Force said investigations are ongoing in all cases, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend fleeing suspects, rescue kidnapped victims and ensure those responsible for criminal activities are brought to justice.
