The Oyo State Police Command has rescued an abducted couple unhurt following a coordinated security operation involving police operatives, the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and hunters in the Oke-Ogun area of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed in a statement that the victims, Alhaji Busiru Booni and his wife, Alhaja Pitiku, were abducted on Saturday, July 5, 2026, when about five armed men stormed Tiro Village in Irawo, firing sporadically before taking the couple to an unknown location.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, immediately ordered a coordinated search-and-rescue operation upon receiving the distress report.
During the operation, security personnel recovered a Bajaj motorcycle earlier reported stolen and abandoned in a nearby bush. The recovery, supported by the deployment of technology, enabled the joint security team to identify the kidnappers’ hideout.
On approaching the location, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the advancing operatives, leading to a gun duel. The police said the kidnappers, who sustained varying degrees of gunshot wounds, fled into the dense forest, abandoning the victims.
The rescued couple was evacuated to a medical facility for examination and treatment. They were later discharged after being certified medically fit and reunited with their family.
The Command appealed to residents to remain vigilant and promptly report anyone seeking suspicious medical treatment or presenting with suspected bullet wounds, noting that such information would aid efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The police also commended the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, hunters, and community members for their cooperation and timely intelligence, which contributed to the success of the operation.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property across Oyo State, the Command urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information to combat criminal activities.
