The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old suspected armed robber and recovered a tricycle allegedly stolen at gunpoint in Ilorin, Kwara State, following an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed in a statement that the arrest was made after credible intelligence from members of the public indicated that a suspected stolen tricycle was being driven along the Oyo–Ogbomoso Road.
Acting on the information, operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit mounted a targeted stop-and-search operation at the Irepo Area, where they intercepted the tricycle bearing registration number Lagos EPE 236 QR and arrested the rider, identified as Akindele Seun, aged 31.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to robbing the owner of the tricycle at gunpoint in Ilorin, Kwara State, before fleeing with the vehicle into Oyo State.
Police said the recovered tricycle has been taken into custody while efforts are ongoing to trace its rightful owner and facilitate its return. Investigators are also working to identify and apprehend other suspects connected to the crime.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that Oyo State does not serve as a refuge for criminals or a transit point for stolen property.
He stressed that anyone involved in criminal activities, whether committed within or outside Oyo State, would be tracked, arrested, investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner also urged residents to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information to enhance security and protect lives and property across the state.
