The Nigerian Army’s emergence as Africa’s Best National Army in Counter-Terrorism Operations for 2025, as conferred by African Security Watch, is more than a prestigious continental honour—it is a defining endorsement of the transformational leadership that has characterised Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu’s first year as Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Since assuming office, Lt Gen Shaibu has driven an operational philosophy centred on intelligence-led operations, joint force synergy, troop welfare, continuous training and force modernisation. These strategic priorities have strengthened the Army’s capacity to confront terrorism, banditry and other asymmetric threats while reinforcing Nigeria’s role as a regional security leader.
