Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted 401 rounds of military-grade ammunition in separate operations in Katsina and Kaduna states, leading to the arrest of two suspects.
The Agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the ammunition was recovered during intelligence-led patrol and stop-and-search operations.
According to the statement, Mustapha Sani, 30, was arrested on Wednesday, July 22, during a patrol operation at Baure in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State. He was found in possession of 323 rounds of military-grade ammunition, comprising 200 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 123 rounds of 7.6mm ammunition, which were neatly concealed.
In a separate operation along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway at Jere, NDLEA officers arrested another suspect, Abubakar Amadu, 30, during a stop-and-search exercise. He was allegedly found with 78 rounds of 7.62mm RLA ammunition concealed inside kegs of red palm oil.
Babafemi said both suspects, along with the recovered ammunition, have been handed over to the relevant security agency for further investigation and necessary action.
Commending the officers and personnel of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI), as well as the MMIA, Apapa, Edo, Kaduna and Katsina Commands for the successful operations, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), urged them to remain committed to the Agency’s balanced strategy of reducing both the supply of illicit drugs and the demand through sustained enforcement and preventive measures.
