The Ministry of Defence has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media claiming that the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, intends to resign from office.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Special Assistant (Media) to the Honourable Minister of Defence, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the ministry described the reports as “malicious” and “entirely fabricated,” stressing that the claims were designed to mislead the public.

The statement said General Musa remains fully committed to his responsibilities and continues to focus on advancing Nigeria’s national security objectives and implementing the country’s defence strategy.

According to the ministry, the minister is steadfast in the discharge of his duties, with tangible progress already being recorded in the nation’s security efforts.

The Ministry of Defence urged Nigerians to disregard the rumour, describing it as fake news with no factual basis.

It also cautioned media organisations, bloggers and social media users against disseminating unverified information, advising them to seek clarification from the Office of the Honourable Minister of Defence before publishing reports concerning the minister or the ministry.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and called on the public to rely only on official communication channels for authentic information.
