Troops of Sector 3, Mutum Biyu, in collaboration with Defence Intelligence Agency operatives, have conducted a cordon and search operation targeting suspected gunrunners in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Military sources said the operation, carried out at about 3:45 p.m. on June 17, followed credible reports that suspected arms traffickers were hibernating in Garin Gidado and Jauro Aji communities.
According to the sources, troops combed the identified locations; however, no armed contact was made during the operation.
Despite the absence of confrontation, troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two extra magazines, 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and three defective rounds of 5.56 x 45mm ammunition.
The recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation and necessary action.
Security sources said operations are ongoing to track down the suspects and dismantle arms trafficking networks in the area.
