Troops Neutralise Two Suspected ISWAP Spies Near Nigeria-Cameroon Border

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have neutralised two suspected spies linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during a patrol operation along the Nigeria-Cameroon border in Borno State.

Security sources said the operation was carried out by troops of the 152 Battalion, Banki, in conjunction with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

According to the sources, the suspects were intercepted in the early hours of Sunday while attempting to cross from the Cameroon side of the border into Nigerian territory.

The sources said the suspects were believed to have crossed into Nigeria either to monitor troop movements and activities or to procure logistics for terrorist elements operating in the area.

“The suspects were sighted jumping from the Cameroon side of the border fence into the Nigerian side, prompting troops to lay in wait and engage them,” the sources said.

The two suspects were neutralised during the operation, while troops subsequently conducted exploitation of the general area and intensified surveillance of the border corridor.

Military authorities said troops have continued to maintain vigilance across their areas of responsibility as part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorists freedom of movement and support networks within the North-East.

The sources added that the general security situation across the theatre remained calm but unpredictable, noting that troops’ morale and operational effectiveness remained high.

Operation Hadin Kai has sustained offensive and border security operations aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and preventing infiltration by insurgents and their collaborators across the region.
