Troops Foil Terrorists’ Mission In Jangeru Village, Shinkafi LGA of Sokoto, Recover Military Uniforms And Heavy Weapon

Troops of the 8 Division Garrison, Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a planned terrorist attack in Sokoto State, recovering a high-calibre weapon, ammunition, motorcycles and military uniforms. The operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of terrorists towards communities in the state to carry out violent attacks.

Acting on the intelligence, the troops tactically positioned themselves at Kwanar Jollof in Jangeru Village, Shinkafi Local Government Area. Upon sighting the terrorists, the soldiers engaged them with heavy firepower, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee the area.

Items recovered from the scene included one PKT assault weapon, a cache of ammunition, two motorcycles, chains suspected to have been used for restraining kidnapped victims, and eight pairs of military uniforms. Security experts say the uniforms could have been used by the terrorists to impersonate security personnel during operations.

The successful ambush highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations under Operation FANSAN YAMMA and the military’s ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist activities across the North-West region. It also prevented what could have been a major attack on vulnerable communities.

The seizure of the uniforms may have prevented future incidents in which innocent citizens could have been misled into believing they were interacting with legitimate security operatives.

The recovery of chains commonly associated with hostage-taking operations also provides insight into the criminal intentions of the fleeing terrorists. In recent years, armed groups operating across parts of the North-West have increasingly relied on kidnapping for ransom as a major source of funding, often holding victims in remote camps under harsh conditions.

Military authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and bandit groups, urging residents to continue providing credible information to support ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
