Residents of parts of Niger State have commended the troops of the Nigerian Army especially the Commanding Officer of the 311 Artillery Regiment, Lt.-Col. I.F. Alison, for a significant improvements in security and sustained military successes against armed bandits in the Kontagora-Rijau axis.
Community members said the officer's assumption of command at the Kontagora Barracks marked the beginning of intensified military operations against criminal elements operating in the area.
According to the residents, troops under his command recorded notable successes against bandits in locations including Lioji, Eriya-Kuimo and A'ure shortly after he took over leadership of the regiment.
The residents said the operations disrupted the activities of armed groups that had previously posed a serious threat to communities and motorists along the Kontagora-Rijau road.
They added that sustained military pressure had reduced the frequency of large-scale bandit movements within the area of responsibility covered by the regiment.
Some community leaders noted that before the recent operations, bandits were known to move in large convoys consisting of hundreds of motorcycles, creating fear among residents and travelers.
They, however, said such large-scale movements had become less frequent due to ongoing military operations and improved security measures.
The residents also praised Lt.-Col. Alison's leadership style, describing him as a field commander who actively participates in operations alongside his troops and maintains a firm stance against criminal elements.
They expressed optimism that continued military operations would further improve security across the Kontagora Emirate and neighbouring areas extending toward Yauri.
The residents offered prayers for the officer and other security personnel engaged in efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
