Military records from ongoing operations conducted by Headquarters 8 Division and Sector 2 of Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma indicate sustained offensive and dominance patrols across affected areas, including Kurawa, Dangulbi, Bimassa, and surrounding communities. These operations involved troops working alongside Department of State Services personnel, Operation Keystone operatives, and Sokoto State Community Guards.
Notably, troops conducted fighting patrols into Kurawa Village and adjoining locations on June 4, where suspected terrorist camps were cleared and occupied. Security forces reported that criminal elements fled upon sighting advancing troops, while drone surveillance conducted over the general area confirmed the absence of terrorist activity after the operation. Such findings are inconsistent with narratives suggesting that armed groups successfully overran multiple communities and forced mass displacement of residents.
Similarly, reports from Tureta Local Government Area showed that troops promptly responded to intelligence regarding suspicious movements around Bimassa Village. Information gathered from residents indicated that suspected criminals were attempting to locate livestock for rustling rather than carrying out large-scale attacks. The rapid deployment of troops disrupted their plans, and security forces maintained control of the area without any reported attack on communities.
While security challenges remain a concern across parts of the North-West, available operational evidence does not support claims that coordinated bandit attacks led to the abandonment of 15 communities during the period under review. Instead, the facts point to proactive military action, sustained area domination, and successful disruption of criminal activities before they could materialise into significant attacks.
