Brief details are emerging on a successful air interdiction operation conducted by air assets under Operation HADIN KAI against suspected terrorist elements in the Gashigar general area of Mobbar Local Government Area, Borno State.
Military sources disclosed that the operation was carried out at about 6:05 p.m. on June 15, 2026, following sustained aerial surveillance that detected the movement and regrouping of suspected terrorists in settlements located approximately 3 kilometres north-east and 3.3 kilometres north of Gashigar.
The sources revealed that the suspects were initially observed moving in small groups before converging at a structure within one of the identified settlements.
Acting on the intelligence, the air component executed a precision strike on the location, destroying the structure being used by the terrorists.
Further surveillance reportedly showed additional fighters moving from nearby buildings towards the targeted area in an apparent attempt to regroup. This prompted a second precision strike, which successfully disrupted the movement and neutralised several of the terrorists.
A Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) conducted after the operation confirmed the destruction of the targeted structure and the neutralisation of multiple terrorists. Several others were observed fleeing the area in disarray.
Military authorities said follow-up operations are ongoing to exploit the gains recorded during the mission and further degrade terrorist capabilities in the area, as efforts continue to deny insurgent elements freedom of action across the North-East theatre.
