Police Raid Criminal Hideouts, Arrest Eight Suspects in Damaturu

Operatives of the Yobe State Police Command have arrested eight suspects and recovered suspected illicit drugs and dangerous weapons during a raid on criminal hideouts in Damaturu metropolis.


Police sources said the operation was carried out by personnel of the Anti-Vice and Crime Response Unit (VCRU) as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and drug-related activities in the state capital.


According to the sources, the operatives raided identified black spots, including the New Marte Ghetto area of Damaturu, where several suspects were apprehended.


“The operation led to the recovery of large quantities of suspected Indian hemp and other illicit substances from the suspects,” the source said.


Among those arrested was Usman Hassan, popularly known as Bapani, 20, who was allegedly found in possession of a large quantity of suspected Indian hemp and a large number of examination script papers belonging to Yobe State University (YSU).


Another suspect, Bukar Sale, also known as Benzima, 18, was arrested with suspected Indian hemp, a sharp cutlass and other substances believed to be illicit drugs.


The police also arrested Adamu Musa, 18; Hassan Abdullahi, alias Gante, 20; Ibrahim Ibrahim, popularly known as Bomboy, 20, who was allegedly found with a sharp knife; Usman Sale, alias Ado Gonja, 21; Mohammed Salisu, alias RP Damboa; and Bako Mohammed, alias Balande, 18.


The suspects are residents of various parts of Damaturu, including the Pompomari and Sanon Kalta areas.


Police authorities said all the suspects were currently in custody while investigations continued to determine the extent of their involvement in criminal and drug-related activities.


The command added that the recovered exhibits would form part of the ongoing investigation and possible prosecution of the suspects.


The police reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining operations against criminal elements, drug traffickers and other offenders threatening public safety in Yobe State.
