The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms and other incriminating items in a major breakthrough against violent crime in the state.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the suspects, identified as Ibrahim Mohammed Dabban and Ndako Sulaimon, both residents of the Sabo area of Sagamu, Ogun State, were apprehended by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol attached to the Oyo/Ogbomoso axis during a routine patrol on June 15, 2026.

The suspects were intercepted while travelling in a gold-coloured Nissan Maxima with registration number FKJ 666 KA at about 10:48 a.m.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of one live cartridge, a cutlass, two jackknives, a handcuff, assorted fetish items, dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, and a Soul-Safe uniform.

Following the discovery, Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed that the case be transferred to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) for further investigation.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly made confessional statements linking themselves to armed robbery and other violent crimes. Investigators also uncovered information indicating that one of the suspects was in possession of a pump-action rifle allegedly obtained from an individual in Iperu, Ogun State.

Acting on the intelligence, VCRU operatives extended their investigation to Ogun State, where they recovered two pump-action rifles, three live cartridges, and one expended cartridge from locations connected to the suspects and the alleged supplier.

Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspected supplier, who remains at large, and to dismantle any wider criminal network associated with the suspects.

The Command assured residents that investigations are continuing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ criminal activities and to ensure that all those involved are prosecuted.

The Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
