The Abia State Police Command has intensified its public safety enforcement campaign, resulting in the impoundment of 15 vehicles and the arrest of 15 suspects for violations related to vehicle registration and number plate regulations across the state.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the Command said the operation is in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police and forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and improve crime prevention.
According to the statement, the enforcement exercise targeted unregistered vehicles as well as vehicles bearing obscured, defaced, altered, or unlawfully covered registration number plates.
The Command disclosed that 15 vehicles found violating registration and number plate regulations were impounded during operations conducted in various parts of the state.
Police also arrested 15 suspects linked to the offences. Of the cases investigated so far, nine have already been charged to court, while investigations into the remaining cases are ongoing and will be diligently prosecuted upon conclusion.
Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, commended the professionalism and operational discipline displayed by officers involved in the exercise. He emphasized that the enforcement drive is designed to enhance public safety, strengthen crime-fighting efforts, and prevent criminals from exploiting loopholes in vehicle identification systems.
The CP assured residents that all suspects would be treated in accordance with constitutional provisions and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and respect for the rule of law throughout the operation.
He also encouraged members of the public to report any complaints of unprofessional conduct by police personnel through the Command’s Complaint Response Unit.
The Abia State Police Command urged vehicle owners to comply fully with vehicle registration laws and ensure the proper display of number plates, warning that enforcement operations will continue across the state.
