Nigerian Navy Rescues Victims Trapped in Alakija Building Collapse, Evacuates Injured to Naval Hospital

The Nigerian Navy has rescued several victims trapped in the aftermath of a building collapse in the Alakija area of Lagos State, reaffirming its commitment to humanitarian assistance and support to civil authorities during emergencies.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain A.A. Folorunsho, said naval personnel responded swiftly to a distress call and immediately deployed to the scene, joining other emergency responders in search and rescue efforts.

According to the statement, the Navy’s prompt intervention, professionalism and coordinated response led to the successful rescue of several victims from the rubble. The injured were evacuated without delay to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo, Lagos, where they are receiving emergency medical treatment and continued care.

The Chief of the Naval Staff commended the courage, dedication and professionalism demonstrated by the rescue team and the medical personnel at the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital. He also lauded the collaboration of other emergency response agencies and members of the public whose collective efforts contributed to the success of the operation.

The Nigerian Navy extended its sympathy to the families affected by the tragic incident and wished those receiving treatment a speedy recovery.

Reiterating its commitment to national service, the Navy assured Nigerians of its continued readiness to provide humanitarian assistance and support to civil authorities whenever required, in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
