The Nigerian Army has continued to strengthen troop welfare and operational efficiency in the North-East theatre through its welfare flight programme and a series of reforms aimed at improving the well-being of personnel engaged in counter-insurgency operations.

Military sources disclosed that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Welfare Flight for June 2026 successfully transported 332 military personnel into and out of the Theatre of Operation Hadin Kai.

According to the sources, the welfare flight, conducted on June 2 using a chartered ValueJet aircraft, airlifted 174 personnel into the theatre while 158 personnel were moved out.

The sources added that the operation was completed without any hitch.

They further revealed that a cumulative total of 33,097 military personnel had so far been transported into and out of the theatre under the welfare flight initiative since its commencement.

The sources said that Nigerian Army had introduced a number of reforms designed to boost morale, operational effectiveness and the overall welfare of personnel serving on the frontline.

The sources said one of the key measures was the upward review of troops’ allowances from N20,000 to N50,000 for soldiers across all ranks from privates to warrant officers.

According to sources, the increase demonstrates the commitment of the military leadership to recognising the sacrifices made by troops in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign.

He explained that the reforms were in line with the “Soldier First” concept of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, which prioritises the welfare, career development and professional growth of personnel.

He added that the various welfare reforms had contributed to improved morale among troops, who continue to demonstrate resilience, commitment and professionalism despite the challenges associated with operating in a complex security environment.
