A delegation from the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), led by the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General IM Abdullahi, has paid condolence visits to the family of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar (retd.) and the Katsina State Government following the retired senior officer’s death.
The delegation visited the family residence and the Katsina State Government House on Sunday, where it conveyed the condolences of the Chief of Defence Staff, General OO Oluyede, and the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).
Speaking during the visit to the family residence in Katsina, Major General Abdullahi described the late Major General Abubakar as a patriotic and dedicated officer who served Nigeria with distinction throughout his military career.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force (North West) Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Army chief noted that the deceased made significant contributions to the growth of the Nigerian Army and the country’s security architecture.
He assured the family that the Armed Forces and relevant security agencies would pursue those responsible for the late general’s death and ensure they are brought to justice.
“Major General Abubakar served the Nigerian Army and the nation meritoriously for over three decades. His years of dedicated service and sacrifice will not be forgotten, and his legacy will continue to inspire officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” Abdullahi said.
The delegation also presented a National Flag to the family in recognition of the late officer’s service and sacrifice to the nation.
Responding on behalf of the family, Alhaji Dikko Mu’azu Ruma, the Gado da Masun Katsina, thanked the Chief of Defence Staff and the Armed Forces for their support and solidarity during the difficult period.
He described the visit as a source of comfort to the family and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.
Earlier, the delegation visited the Katsina State Government House, where it was received by Deputy Governor Mallam Faruk Lawal Jobe on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
Major General Abdullahi conveyed the condolences of the military leadership to the government and people of Katsina State, describing the late Major General Abubakar as one of the state’s distinguished sons.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor said the retired general’s death was a painful loss not only to Katsina State but to Nigeria as a whole, noting that his commitment to national service would remain an inspiration to future generations.
Jobe called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to tackle insecurity and end the activities of terrorists and other criminal elements across the country. He also reaffirmed the Katsina State Government’s support for military operations aimed at restoring peace and stability in the North-West.
Major General Abdullahi, in turn, thanked the state government for its continued support to the military, stressing that cooperation between security agencies and state authorities remains vital to achieving lasting peace in the region.
Special prayers were offered at both the family residence and the Government House for the repose of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar’s soul.
The delegation included the Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General WB Idris; General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Major General BP Koughna; Rear Admiral AM Haruna; Air Vice Marshal AY Abdullahi; Major General JS Bindawa (retd.); Brigadier General SK Usman (retd.); and Air Vice Marshal IS Kaita (retd.), alongside traditional rulers, family members and prominent sons of Katsina State.
