The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday attended the funeral prayer of three police officers who lost their lives following an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in Zamfara State.
The officers were killed on Monday along the Anka–Bagega Road while attempting to detonate an IED allegedly planted by suspected bandits in the area.
The funeral prayer was held at the Zamfara State Police Command Headquarters in Gusau and was led by CSP Suleiman Alhassan Haruna. Also in attendance was the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mallam Abubakar Nakwada.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, Ahmed Mohammed Bello, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officers, describing their deaths as a painful blow to the command and the nation.
“It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that we mourn the tragic loss of our gallant officers: OC EOD, SP Abdulrazak Musa Hassan; Inspector Auwal Ahmad; and Inspector Murtala Musa, who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty while serving and protecting our nation,” he said.
The commissioner noted that the officers demonstrated exceptional courage, professionalism and commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace, adding that their sacrifice would never be forgotten.
“Zamfara Police Command will forever remember their service and dedication to the nation. Heroes have fallen, but their legacy lives on. Their bravery, dedication and unwavering commitment to duty will remain a source of inspiration,” Bello added.
In his remarks, Governor Lawal, represented by Nakwada, described the fallen officers as patriots whose sacrifice underscored their dedication to protecting citizens and defending the country.
The late officers were honoured with prayers and tributes from colleagues, government officials and members of the public, who paid their final respects to the fallen heroes.
