The Delta State Police Command has strengthened its commitment to intelligence-led policing and professional capacity development as officers participated in a specialised two-day training on forensic and fraud investigation.
The training, organised by the Nigeria Police Force in collaboration with Pearl Forensic Risk Advisory Services, brought together officers from Area Commands, Divisions, Tactical Formations and other departments across the state.
The programme, convened by HRH Erelu Dr Pearl Chidinma Ogbolu, focused on enhancing the capacity of police personnel to investigate financial crimes, cyber-related offences, fraud, terrorism financing and other emerging security threats.
Speaking at the opening of the training, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the organisers and expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for approving the initiative and prioritising the continuous professional development of officers.
According to the police commissioner, the evolving nature of crime requires law enforcement personnel to continually upgrade their knowledge and skills, particularly in forensic science, financial investigations, cybercrime detection, digital evidence management and intelligence gathering.
He urged participants to take full advantage of the training and apply the knowledge acquired to improve investigative efficiency and service delivery.
The officers received intensive instruction on Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF), collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), investigation of public sector fraud, crime scene management, evidence gathering, cyber and digital forensics, as well as modern financial crime investigation techniques.
Facilitators at the programme included forensic and fraud investigation experts Prof. Suleiman A. S. Aruwa, Dr Stacy Ann Nwodo and Mr Dilichukwu Alfred Ononugbo.
Participants engaged in practical exercises, case studies and interactive sessions designed to expose them to contemporary investigative methods, financial intelligence techniques, evidence management processes and prosecution support strategies.
Addressing participants, the convener, Dr Pearl Chidinma Ogbolu, stressed the importance of continuously strengthening the capacity of law enforcement personnel to effectively tackle financial crimes, cybercrime, corruption and other complex criminal activities.
The training forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to equip officers with the skills and knowledge needed to address modern security challenges and support the vision of building a more professional, technology-driven and service-oriented police institution.
