The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected electric cable vandals and recovered vandalised electric cables in a renewed crackdown on the destruction of critical national infrastructure across the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the suspects were apprehended on June 25, 2026, following a coordinated intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Kwale Police Division and members of a local vigilante group.
Edafe said the security team acted on credible intelligence indicating that suspected vandals were dismantling and stealing electric cables along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road.
“On arrival at the scene, the suspects attempted to flee on sighting the operatives. During the operation, one of the suspects sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, while the second suspect was taken into custody,” the statement said.
The suspects were identified as 28-year-old Osakwe Sunday and 34-year-old Ekene Obocha.
Police also recovered the vandalised electric cables, which have been taken into custody as exhibits while investigations continue.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, warned criminal elements to desist from vandalising government infrastructure and other public assets.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to identifying, arresting and prosecuting those involved in the destruction of critical national infrastructure and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information that will assist the police in combating crime across the state.
