The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has directed investigators to expedite action on the probe into the suspected murder of a 23-year-old female student whose lifeless body was discovered at her residence in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the case has been transferred from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a comprehensive and discreet investigation.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the incident was reported on June 14, 2026, after the deceased was found dead within the compound where she lived as a tenant.
Police operatives who visited the scene reportedly observed a deep cut on the victim’s thigh, other visible marks of violence on her body, and blood stains around the area, raising suspicion of foul play.
Preliminary investigations further revealed that the deceased was a student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor.
As part of ongoing investigations, the landlord of the premises has been taken into custody and is currently being interrogated by detectives.
The police said the body has been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
CP Orutugu has directed the investigating team to conduct a thorough and professional investigation, emphasizing that no stone should be left unturned in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The Commissioner also reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to securing justice for the deceased and urged members of the public with useful information to assist the police investigation.
The Anambra State Police Command said updates on the case would be provided as investigations progress.
