Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has praised troops of the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation Fansan Yamma for recording major operational gains against armed bandits in different parts of the state.
The commendation followed a series of coordinated military offensives conducted in Kaura Namoda, Birnin Magaji and Shinkafi Local Government Areas, which led to the neutralisation of notorious bandit leaders and the recovery of weapons.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, Lawal described the renewed offensive as strategic and timely in disrupting the activities of terrorist groups operating within Zamfara and neighbouring states.
According to the statement, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma launched coordinated operations in the early hours of May 7 in Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji LGAs, resulting in the elimination of three bandit kingpins.
The troops also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 rifle, a machine gun, a locally fabricated pistol, seven rifle magazines and 571 rounds of ammunition.
The statement further revealed that troops recorded another major breakthrough on May 10 after intelligence reports indicated that several notorious terrorist commanders had converged at a hideout in Tumfa village, Shinkafi LGA, to plan attacks on communities in the state.
Acting on the intelligence, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma carried out a precision airstrike on the location, destroying the structure used as the terrorists’ meeting point and disrupting the planned attacks.
Governor Lawal said the sustained military operations reflected the determination and resilience of security forces in combating insecurity across the North-West.
He reaffirmed the Zamfara State Government’s commitment to supporting the military and other security agencies through logistics and operational assistance aimed at restoring lasting peace in the state.
The governor also urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing efforts against criminal elements.
