The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing operations against violent extremism and organized criminal groups, following the dismantling of an alleged IPOB/ESN enclave in Imo State.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, operatives of the Imo State Police Command carried out an intelligence-led operation on April 23, 2026, at a suspected terrorist hideout located in Nguru community, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area.

The operation, which followed actionable intelligence obtained from the confessional statement of a suspected high-ranking IPOB/ESN commander identified as Ebube Uchenna Mmaduakolam, led to the arrest of three suspects believed to be members of the group.

Police authorities disclosed that the suspects are currently in lawful custody and are assisting investigators with information relating to the network’s logistics operations, command structure, and planned activities.

A search conducted at the hideout reportedly led to the recovery of a cache of arms and equipment, including two General-Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), 3,115 rounds of GPMG ammunition, one AK-47 rifle, a pump-action shotgun, several surveillance drones, and Biafra currency in different denominations.

The Inspector-General of Police commended the operatives involved in the operation for what he described as their professionalism, courage, and tactical efficiency.

The police leadership noted that the seizure of the weapons and equipment has significantly weakened the operational capability of the IPOB/ESN network in the South-East and represents a major setback to criminal elements operating in the region.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the country and sustaining efforts aimed at preserving national security and public order.
