Troops of Sector 3 of Operation Enduring Peace have foiled an attempted cattle rustling operation by unidentified armed men in a border community between Bassa and Jos South Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 11:50 p.m. on May 17, 2026, after residents reported sporadic gunshots around Rigochongo village.
According to the sources, troops swiftly mobilised to the area and discovered that the gunfire came from a group of armed men attempting to rustle cattle within the community.
The attackers reportedly fled the scene on sighting the advancing security personnel, abandoning the operation before any cattle could be taken.
Authorities confirmed that no casualty was recorded during the incident.
Following the failed attack, troops intensified patrols and surveillance operations across the area to forestall further criminal activities and reassure residents of their safety.
Security agencies also urged members of the public to continue providing timely information to support ongoing operations aimed at tackling banditry and other forms of criminality in Plateau State.
