The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to quality healthcare delivery and the professional development of its nursing personnel as it joined the global community to celebrate the 2026 International Nurses’ Week.
The celebration, held at the 011 Presidential Air Fleet (PAF) Clinic in Abuja on May 7, brought together nurses, senior military officers, and healthcare professionals under the theme, “Our Nurses, Our Future: Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”
The event highlighted the critical contributions of NAF nurses to healthcare services and operational support within the Armed Forces and across the country.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, Air Commodore AA Komolafe, who represented the Commander of the 011 Presidential Air Fleet, Air Vice Marshal Olayinka Oyesola, reaffirmed the Air Force leadership’s dedication to improving the welfare, training, and career development of nurses within the Service.
He noted that nurses remain essential to effective healthcare delivery and military medical operations.
In her remarks, the Director of Nursing Services at Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Group Captain Ann Chizoba Akujuobi, urged NAF nurses to uphold professionalism, compassion, and ethical standards in carrying out their duties.
She described nurses as the backbone of the healthcare system and encouraged them to embrace innovation and continuous learning to strengthen healthcare delivery both within the military and the wider society.
As part of the global week-long observance, similar activities were conducted across the NAF’s 13 hospitals and several medical centres nationwide.
The activities included health walks, free medical check-ups, lectures, health talks, and public sensitization campaigns aimed at promoting public health awareness and improving healthcare delivery.
The Nigerian Air Force said the celebration reflects its broader commitment to repositioning its nursing workforce for greater efficiency and service excellence in line with the strategic vision of the Chief of the Air Staff.
