The Kano State Police Command has convened a strategic community dialogue in Dala Local Government Area aimed at addressing the growing menace of thuggery, locally known as Fadan Daba, and strengthening public trust in security institutions.
The meeting, held on May 12, 2026, was organised in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, mandating state police commands to deepen community engagement and collaboration with residents.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, the dialogue was led by the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
The forum brought together community leaders, political office holders, traditional rulers, security agencies, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), ward heads, and other stakeholders to deliberate on practical solutions to insecurity in Dala and surrounding communities.
Speaking during the engagement, the National Women Coordinator of the PCRC and Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Community Policing, Barrister Maimuna Umar Sheriff, urged residents to take greater responsibility for the security of their communities.
She noted that many residents were aware of the identities and activities of criminal elements involved in violent clashes and urged communities not to allow a few individuals to continue threatening lives and property.
Participants at the meeting also offered recommendations on tackling thuggery, extortion, and other related crimes affecting the area.
Among dignitaries present were the Executive Chairman of Dala Local Government Area, Hon. Surajo Ibrahim Imam; the District Head of Dala, Alhaji Yahaya Inuwa Abba, Dan Galadiman Kano; the PCRC Chairman for Dala Area Command, Alhaji Sulaiman Umar; and ACP Maina Ngari, the Dala Area Commander.
Others included heads of security agencies operating within Dala LGA, officials of the Hisbah Board, divisional police officers, ward heads, and community leaders.
In his remarks, Hon. Surajo Ibrahim Imam commended the Kano State Commissioner of Police for convening the dialogue and pledged the council’s support toward grassroots mobilisation to complement security efforts.
He also urged youth leaders and ward heads to discourage young people from engaging in thuggery and to work closely with security agencies in identifying criminal elements.
Speaking at the meeting, CP Bakori thanked stakeholders for attending and assured residents that the command would consider all necessary administrative actions required to restore peace and stability in the area.
The police commissioner also warned residents to monitor the indiscriminate influx of strangers into their communities, stressing that some criminal activities were carried out by unidentified individuals exploiting the hospitality of locals.
He further called on residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information to aid the identification and arrest of criminal suspects.
CP Bakori also appreciated Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for prioritising security and supporting the activities of the police command.
As part of immediate measures to address the insecurity, the commissioner directed the commencement of confidential stakeholder engagements involving the police, community representatives, PCRC members, and other relevant groups aimed at identifying and apprehending those responsible for criminal activities in Dala and neighbouring communities.
The Kano State Police Command reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led and community-driven policing strategies to safeguard lives and property across the state.
