The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has felicitated with Muslim faithful across Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration and directed enhanced security measures nationwide to ensure a peaceful festive period.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the IGP congratulated Muslims as they commenced the celebration and prayed for peace, unity, and prosperity in the country.
The police chief also ordered Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across all state commands and the Federal Capital Territory to strengthen security deployments and intensify proactive policing during the celebrations.
According to the statement, the operational measures include the strategic deployment of tactical teams, intelligence operatives, and conventional police personnel to Eid prayer grounds, critical national assets, recreational centres, highways, motor parks, and other public places.
The Force also said visibility policing, coordinated patrols, stop-and-search operations, and intelligence-led surveillance activities had been intensified across the country to deter criminal activities and safeguard lives and property.
The Inspector-General further directed officers to maintain swift response mechanisms to tackle any security threat that may arise during the festive period.
While urging Nigerians to remain vigilant, the Nigeria Police Force stressed that public cooperation remained vital to national security.
“The Nigeria Police Force places the highest premium on public vigilance. Every Nigerian has a role to play in keeping our communities safe during this festive season. A timely report from a vigilant citizen can save lives,” the statement added.
