The Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspects and recovered a locally made revolver pistol, dangerous weapons, and 10 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in separate operations across the state.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the command said the arrests were made as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and criminality in Delta State.
According to the statement, operatives attached to the Asaba Area Command Surveillance Team, while on routine patrol behind the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) premises in Asaba at about 5:30 a.m. on May 30, 2026, intercepted three suspects identified as Musa Sule, 22, Moses Sunday, 26, and Osama Ibrahim, 25.
The suspects were searched based on reasonable suspicion, leading to the recovery of a locally made revolver pistol and other dangerous weapons. They were subsequently arrested, while the recovered items were taken into police custody. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
In a separate operation on May 29, 2026, at about 4:00 a.m., operatives of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU) intercepted an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz station wagon with registration number BEN 982 TE during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway.
The vehicle was occupied by two suspects, identified as Hilary Aloma and Oki Joseph, also known as "Big Joe." A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 10 bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp, concealed within the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspected illicit drugs were being transported from Edo State to Awka, Anambra State, before the suspects were apprehended.
The two suspects have been taken into custody, while the exhibits have been secured as evidence. Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the criminal network and identify other accomplices involved in the illicit trade.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism, and commitment to duty. He also warned individuals involved in unlawful possession of firearms, drug trafficking, cultism, and other criminal activities to desist or face the full weight of the law.
