Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has thrown his weight behind the forthcoming PPUGI Men’s Mental Health Conference 2026, an initiative focused on promoting mental health awareness and emotional support for security personnel across the country.
The endorsement came during an official courtesy visit by Her Eminence, Dr. Prevail Farida Ahmed, a UN Ambassador For Peace and President and Founder of PPUGI, ahead of the conference themed: “Providing Direction and Support 5.0: Breaking the Silence; Mental Health Support for Our Men (Security Personnel).”
The meeting, described as productive and impactful, highlighted the urgent need to strengthen conversations around mental health, emotional resilience, and psychosocial support for men in uniform and Nigerians generally.
Speaking during the engagement, the Minister commended the vision behind the initiative and praised PPUGI for championing advocacy on mental wellness, especially among security personnel who daily face enormous psychological and emotional pressures in the line of duty.
Gen. Musa, known for his commitment to national peace and security, expressed deep interest in the wellbeing of military and other security operatives, stressing the importance of supporting those who sacrifice for the safety of the nation.
In a major boost to the conference, the Defence Minister also accepted to serve as the Distinguished Special Guest of Honour at the event.
He encouraged the organisers to remain steadfast in advancing awareness on mental health and emotional wellbeing, noting that leadership becomes more impactful when it supports and listens to the people.
The visit marks another significant step toward deepening national conversations on mental health, humanity, leadership, and the welfare of security personnel in Nigeria.
PPUGI reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, progress, unity, and mental wellness in society.
