Troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have recorded multiple operational successes across Benue State, including the arrest of suspected terrorists, the foiling of kidnap attempts, and the rescue of victims in coordinated patrols conducted on April 24.
In Gwer West Local Government Area, troops on a fighting patrol targeting suspected criminal enclaves around Agbaragba and Abian communities apprehended two suspected terrorists in Sengev and Abaji areas. Although no direct contact was made with the suspects during the patrol, security sources confirmed that two motorcycles believed to have been used for criminal activities were recovered. The suspects are currently in custody for further investigation.
In a separate operation in Konshisha Local Government Area, troops responded swiftly to a distress call at about 8:19 a.m. in Agidi community, where suspected kidnappers were reportedly operating. On sighting the approaching troops, the kidnappers fled into nearby bushes, abandoning two victims who were subsequently rescued and reunited with their families.
Similarly, in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, troops, in collaboration with the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, rescued another kidnapped victim in Mbakange community, Mbache Council Ward. The operation followed a report of kidnapping activities at about 3:00 p.m., prompting a rapid response from troops deployed from Tor Donga. The kidnappers fled on noticing the troops, leaving the victim behind.
The rescued individual was later handed over to the Nigeria Police for further necessary action.
These operations underscore the sustained efforts by security forces under Operation Whirl Stroke to combat criminal activities and enhance the safety of communities across Benue State.
