The Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has described the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as a true product of Lagos, shaped by its communities and institutions and driven by a strong commitment to service.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made the remarks on Saturday, April 25, 2026, while hosting the IGP at a colorful and emotionally resonant state banquet held at the Lagos State House, Marina, following his appointment as the 23rd indigenous and 33rd Inspector-General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the event was organized in recognition of Disu’s distinguished career and legacy of leadership, particularly his impactful tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos.

The banquet brought together top government officials, security stakeholders, dignitaries, and members of the public to celebrate the IGP’s achievements and contributions to policing in Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, Disu expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and residents for the warm reception, describing the honour as a personal homecoming. He reflected on his years of service in Lagos and reaffirmed his commitment to restoring public trust, promoting professionalism, and strengthening community-based policing across the country.

The IGP also pledged to deepen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Government, and key stakeholders, including the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, to sustain safety and stability nationwide.

He called on Nigerians to actively support law enforcement efforts, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility involving government, the private sector, civil society, and citizens.
