Sector 3 Operation HADIN KAI Troops Repel Terrorist Attack in Monguno as Commanding Officer, Six Soldiers Killed by IED

Troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force (North East) under Operation HADIN KAI have repelled an isolated terrorist infiltration attack on a military position known as Charlie 13 in Monguno, Borno State.

According to a press statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the attack occurred in the late hours of April 12, 2026. Troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, successfully forcing them to retreat while maintaining control of the location.

However, tragedy struck shortly after the encounter. The Commanding Officer, who was en route to personally assess the situation at the frontline, ran into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The explosion severely damaged his vehicle, resulting in his death alongside six other soldiers.

The statement described the late Commanding Officer as a courageous and selfless leader whose actions embodied the highest traditions of military service. His decision to move toward his troops despite the risks was highlighted as a testament to his bravery, dedication, and commitment to the welfare of his men.

Operation HADIN KAI expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officer and the fallen personnel, noting that their sacrifice would remain indelible in the memory of the Armed Forces and the nation.

The military reassured the public of its continued resolve to combat terrorism and ensure the security of the North East region.
