The Ogun State Police Command has warned against unlawful assemblies and violent protests in Sagamu, following a series of coordinated security operations that led to the arrest of 146 suspects.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Sagamu Divisional Headquarters, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, conveyed the position of the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, stressing that the Command would not tolerate any act capable of disrupting public peace.
Ojajuni stated that while citizens have the right to express grievances, such actions must be carried out within the confines of the law, warning that any form of self-help, road obstruction, or attacks on public institutions would be met with the full weight of the law.
The police action followed an incident on April 7, 2026, when commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as okada riders, blocked the Oba Erinwole GRA Road in Sagamu, disrupting movement and economic activities. The situation escalated as the protesters reportedly extended their actions to the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), the TRACE Office in Sotubo, and the Sotubo Health Centre, affecting essential services.
In response, security operatives dispersed the protesters and launched intelligence-driven operations, leading to the arrest of 10 key suspects linked to the disturbance. The suspects have since been charged to court.
Building on this, a joint security raid was carried out in the early hours of April 13 across identified criminal flashpoints in Sagamu. The operation involved multiple agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun Corps, Ogun State Community Security (So-Safe) Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
According to the Command, the raid resulted in the arrest of 146 suspects, all of whom are currently undergoing screening. Those found culpable will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner reiterated that there would be no hiding place for criminal elements, affirming that the Command remains fully equipped and strategically positioned to sustain the successes recorded under “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe.”
He also commended the Sagamu Local Government, traditional rulers, and security agencies for their cooperation and professionalism, noting that such collaboration has strengthened operational effectiveness and public confidence.
Residents were urged to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities through designated emergency lines, as the Command intensifies efforts to maintain peace and security across Sagamu and its environs.
