Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered a massive deployment of security assets to Plateau State following the deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, which left several innocent citizens dead.
The Police high command said the emergency deployment is aimed at restoring calm, strengthening security operations, and ensuring the arrest of those behind the attack.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the IGP strongly condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the Governor of Plateau State, the people of the state, and particularly the families affected by the violence in Angwan Rukuba.
According to the statement, IGP Disu had earlier deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada, to Plateau State to carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation, coordinate ongoing police operations, and reinforce the state’s security architecture.
The statement added that the police have now scaled up operations further with the deployment of additional tactical teams, Police Mobile Force units, and intelligence operatives, working in collaboration with other security agencies to contain the situation and prevent any further breakdown of law and order across the state.
The Inspector-General directed all operational commanders to ensure visible policing in vulnerable areas and deepen engagement with communities at risk, stressing that the enhanced operations would continue until normalcy is fully restored.
The police boss also appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while urging them to cooperate fully with security agencies and avoid reprisals or taking the law into their own hands.
He further called on citizens to promptly report suspicious movements or incidents to relevant authorities to aid ongoing operations and help security forces track down the perpetrators.
The latest police action comes amid heightened concern over recurring violence in parts of Plateau State, with security authorities under pressure to halt further attacks and reassure residents of government’s commitment to restoring peace.
